The coach interior as it was found. The coaches had been sealed for 13 years. Insider were newspapers of the era (the big story was Charles and Camilla!!!). On one table, there was even a BR Meal Box - with knife and fork, just as the last passenger had left it...

The Derwent Mail at Doncaster Works - its last shunt.....

This has to be the Derwent Flyer?

In the Pink - mid renovation

Some of the wild beasties to be found on Skipwith Common

The Station building as it was in 2004, pre-restoration, and in 2007 - after some TLC.

The Lady Deramore and
Blackberry Halt

Why the names?

Lord Deramore lived at Heslington Hall (presently part of York University) and was a major sponsor of the railway. Lady Violet Deramore opened Skipwith Station in 1912. We feel that Lady Deramore would have appreciated the refinements that will be characteristic of the new carriage the “Lady Deramore” - Romanesque heated flooring and a Jacuzzi denote the luxury with which this carriage will be appointed...

The Derwent Valley Light Railway was also known as the Blackberry line -  a reference to the large number of people who visited Skipwith Common to collect Blackberries. As the closest station to the common, we thought it appropriate to name the development of the loading shed “Blackberry Halt”.
The Lady Deramore is pictured standing at Barrow Hill in Derby (Feb 2011). For the pundits, she is a Mark 2 TSO carriage exactly as one of the existing ones, though she is younger by a few years being a vehicle from the mid 1970s.

She arrived at Skipwith Station by road to Skipwith Station and was offloaded by a 160 tone crane. The lift was arranged by Millington Crane Hire - a local company.

This amazing photograph was sent to us by one of our guests. It was taken on Skipwith Common - right on our doorstep!!
July to September saw a lot of fitting out work inside the Lady Deramore - difficult to capture that well on photos!

This picture taken on 19th September shows the main roof support for the Blackberry Halt being erected. This beam will be visible along the internal roof line of the completed building.

It was nicknamed the “Skipwith Eye”...!!
Building work in progress - roof beams being put in place on 11th October.
Roof under-cladding being installed on 20th October. Brickwork completed...
